Communications shaped by experience on both sides of the story.

Auster Communications was founded by Paul Lyon, a senior communications leader and former financial journalist with more than 20 years’ experience across global banking, FinTech and enterprise technology.

About Auster Communications

Paul Lyon's career began in financial journalism, including senior editorial roles at Risk.net, Energy Risk and Structured Products, before moving into corporate communications. He has since held senior communications and brand leadership positions at NatWest Markets, Daiwa Capital Markets and Wolters Kluwer, and most recently led a communications and marketing transformation programme for a Moody’s-backed RegTech business.

That combination matters. Having spent years deciding which corporate stories were genuinely interesting as a journalist, and subsequently advising organisations and senior executives on how to tell them, Paul brings an understanding of     communications from both sides of the conversation.

His experience spans corporate reputation, media and analyst relations, executive communications, thought leadership,   financial and M&A communications, brand narrative and transformation. He has built and led international teams, advised senior executives and Boards, and developed communications programmes across Europe, North America and Asia.

Auster is deliberately different from a traditional agency model. Clients work directly with senior counsel, combining       strategic advice with hands-on execution when required. Assignments range from focused projects and executive counsel to retained support and substantial communications transformation programmes.

Current clients include financial technology businesses, industry analyst firms and financial media groups.

The name Auster takes inspiration from the late novelist Paul Auster, whose writing explored identity, perspective, storytelling and the unexpected ways in which narratives take shape. It reflects a simple idea at the heart of the advisory:

Every reputation tells a story.

Media & Analyst Relations

Earn attention from the audiences that matter.

Auster helps organisations build stronger relationships with journalists, industry analysts and other influential voices. From media strategy and press office counsel to story       development, executive profiling and analyst engagement, we focus on creating credible reasons to be heard, rather than simply adding to the noise.

Executive Communications & Thought Leadership

Turn expertise into authority.

The best executives have something distinctive to say. Auster helps find it. We develop executive positioning, speeches, articles, commentary, social content and thought leadership programmes that translate expertise into       compelling ideas, strengthening individual and corporate reputation.

Brand Narrative & Reputation

Define what you stand for and why it matters.

Auster helps organisations articulate a differentiated         corporate story. We develop positioning, messaging     frameworks and brand narratives that connect what a   business does with why its audiences should care, creating greater consistency across corporate communications,   marketing and leadership.

Strategic Communications & Transformation

Senior counsel when change creates opportunity or risk.

Periods of growth, transformation, transactions and       leadership change place particular demands on reputation. Auster provides senior communications counsel and   hands-on leadership for specific projects or  programmes, from developing strategy and governance to bringing         together communications, brand and stakeholder               engagement around a common direction.

Senior experience. Directly applied.

Auster is built on a simple model: senior communications   expertise without unnecessary layers.

Clients work directly with experienced counsel, whether they need a fresh perspective on reputation, a stronger corporate narrative, greater visibility with media and analysts, or, for that matter, additional leadership during a period of change.

The approach combines strategic thinking with practical   delivery, informed by more than two decades working across journalism, banking, financial services and technology.

Clear thinking. Credible communications.

Reputation that carries weight.
